Intro post

Hello all, my name is Nathan Anderson, and I'm currently studying in the Illustration department at The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. I'm in my sophomore year, and I'm learning a ton, making some great friends and improving in my artwork. My professors are all outstanding people, they love what they do and are dedicated to help me in my field.

I'm hoping to become a concept artist in the constantly growing field of movies and games, as I've always focused on characters and creatures.  I've been drawing nearly every day since I was about 4 years old, and that's what I plan to do until I pass on.

I'm inspired by many things, this ranges from the obvious, like different styles of art and the artists who work in them, as well as film and nature, but I'm also inspired by 80's design and the like. My biggest inspiration has to be my father, who passed away in 2010. He taught me everything I know and showed the utmost support for what I did, as he was an illustrator as well,

My favorite artists include and are not limited to: David Anderson (My dad), Frank Frazetta, Dave Stevens, Rembrandt, Moebius (Jean Giraud), Gustave Doré, Tanino Liberatore, Gil Elvgren, Syd Mead, Mike Mignola, Frank Cho, Ron Cobb, Richard Corben, Adam Hughes, Burne Hogarth, Andrew Loomis, James Bama, Bernie Wrightson, Jeff Jones, Barry Windsor-Smith, Michael Kaluta, Drew Struzan, John Buscema, N.C Wyeth, Geof Darrow, and many more.

I'm also very influenced by my favorite movies, particularly my favorite film ever made,  Ridley Scott's Alien. Other favorites include John Carpenter's The Thing, Blade Runner, No Country for Old Men, Apocalypto, and more recently, Prometheus. Again, too many to list.

On this blog, I'll be posting work from the past and present, school work and work I do on my own free time, as well as commissioned works. I hope to use this blog as a catalog of my own improvement as I evolve as an illustrator.

So, without saying more, here's some art. I've been doing lots of speedpaint portrait and movie still studies as of late, so I thought I'd post them here.

Here's one of Bill Murray as Steve Zissou.
